Therapy line 02

Tap-water iontophoresis against hyperhidrosis.

The ionic current generated by tap-water iontophoresis sustainably reduces sweat production on hands, feet and underarms. Clinically proven, gentle, also for home use. Made in Germany.

Mechanism of action

How iontophoresis calms the sweat glands.

Hands, feet or underarms are placed in water trays, and direct current flows through the tap water. Over several sessions the activity of the sweat glands is measurably reduced, in many patients by up to 80%.

The ionic current generated by tap-water iontophoresis stimulates the sweat glands in the immediate vicinity as well as the conduction system, with the aim of reducing sweat production to a natural level without damaging the sweat glands.

Initially, a daily session for 3 weeks is recommended; each session lasts 15 minutes. After 10 treatments a clear improvement usually occurs. The maintenance therapy is adjusted individually.

Effect & application of our idromed® range

idromed® 5

The idromed®5 treats excessive sweating using tap-water iontophoresis. A weak direct current is conducted through water to the hands, feet or underarms, normalising sweat production, completely without medication.

Suitable from the age of 12 (younger children only under supervision). Do not use, or only after consulting a physician, in the case of pacemakers, cardiac arrhythmias, metal implants in the current path, pregnancy, larger skin defects or reduced pain sensitivity.

The idromed®5 is easy to use and suitable for home therapy. It can be prescribed by a physician; in many cases the costs are covered by health insurance.

Indications

When iontophoresis works.

01

Hyperhidrosis of the hands

Excessive sweating of the palms. Most common indication. Bilateral treatment in a shallow water tray.

02

Hyperhidrosis of the feet

Plantar sweating often accompanied by odour and skin maceration. Iontophoresis reduces both problems.

03

Axillary hyperhidrosis

Treatment of the armpits with special axillary electrodes, as an alternative to Botox or surgery.

04

Generalised hyperhidrosis

For large-area sweating, iontophoresis can be used alongside systemic therapies.

05

Accompanying dermatoses

Fungal infections, eczema and maceration caused by chronic moisture recede with the reduction in sweating.

06

Bromhidrosis

Foul sweat odour due to bacterial decomposition. Reducing the amount of sweat deprives the bacteria of their basis.

FAQ

Answers in brief.

What actually is hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis refers to excessive sweating that goes beyond what the body needs to regulate temperature. Two forms are distinguished: Primary hyperhidrosis: it occurs without an identifiable cause. Secondary hyperhidrosis: it can be caused by an underlying condition. In the case of persistent or heavy sweating, it is important to have the cause clarified by a physician.

Does the treatment hurt?

No. With correct settings you feel a slight tingling. The current is slowly increased up to the individual sensitivity threshold. Anyone who finds direct current unpleasant benefits from the idromed® 5 PS with pulsed current.

How does a session work in practice?

Hands or feet are placed in a shallow water tray with tap water; for the armpits there are special pad electrodes. The device is started and the current is adjusted individually. After 15 minutes the session is over. Quick, easy and possible on the side, e.g. while reading or watching TV.

Does health insurance cover the costs?

For medically diagnosed hyperhidrosis, statutory health insurers usually cover the costs, for both in-practice treatments and home devices. We provide corresponding prescription templates.

Can I do this at home too?

Yes. All idromed® devices are approved for home use. However, we recommend starting the therapy under medical guidance and having the individual current profile set in the practice. The follow-up sessions can then be conveniently carried out at home.

Are there contraindications?

Yes. Iontophoresis is not suitable for wearers of a pacemaker or other electronic implants, for metal implants in the treatment areas, for open wounds or during pregnancy. Medical consultation before starting therapy is mandatory.

Which model suits which patient profile?

PS - pulsed direct current for sensitive skin and children. GS - constant direct current for heavy sweating and thick calluses.
