Therapy line 01

UV Phototherapy

Harness the benefits of the medically usable portions of invisible light.

Mechanism of action

How UV light works in the body.

Irradiation with UV light has a calming effect on the immune system and slows the growth of overactive skin cells. In psoriasis, the radiation inhibits cell growth and reduces skin scaling; in vitiligo, it stimulates repigmentation.

UVB narrowband (311 nm) is today the gold standard for psoriasis and vitiligo, more targeted than classic broadband UVB. UVA (340–400 nm) works particularly well for atopic dermatitis.

Combination therapies such as PUVA (psoralen + UVA) or balneophototherapy are also available. The right choice is made by the treating physician.

Indications

Which skin conditions UV phototherapy helps with.

01

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory and non-infectious skin disease. Scaling and inflammatory redness are among the characteristic features of the skin changes. Psoriasis is therefore also known as scaly-skin disease (Schuppenflechte). To the S3 guideline (AWMF)

02

Vitiligo

Vitiligo, also called white-spot disease, causes the skin to stop producing melanin due to the loss of pigment cells. White, clearly defined patches form, often on the face as well as on elbows, knees, hands, feet and the genital area, but in principle anywhere on the body and also in the hair. The condition is neither contagious nor painful.

03

Atopic dermatitis

Atopic dermatitis (atopic eczema, neurodermatitis) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that occurs in flare-ups. It is accompanied by tormenting itching. It often affects the scalp, face and hands. To the S3 guideline (AWMF)

FAQ

Answers in brief.

Who may prescribe and carry out UV phototherapy?

The prescription is issued by the treating physician. The therapy itself can be carried out, after medical instruction, in the practice by medical staff or by the patient themselves, always under regular medical supervision.

Does health insurance cover the costs?

With a medical indication and a corresponding prescription, statutory health insurers usually cover the costs, for both in-practice treatments and home devices. We provide corresponding prescription templates and advise on billing procedures.

How often is irradiation needed?

The exact treatment plan is set individually by the physician, based on skin type, diagnosis and treatment progress.

Are there side effects?

As with any UV exposure, short-term skin redness can occur. With correct dosing, which our devices ensure through precise control, relevant side effects are rare. Medical supervision further minimises risks.

How do UVB and UVA differ?

UVB narrowband (311 nm) penetrates only superficially into the skin and is standard for psoriasis and vitiligo. UVA (340–400 nm) penetrates deeper and is particularly effective for atopic dermatitis. Which wavelength is indicated is decided by the dermatologist. Many of our devices offer both options.

Which model is right for my practice?

That depends on patient volume, the indications treated and the space available. We are happy to advise you free of charge: together we find the optimal setup, from a single device to a complete outfit.
